Pierre Dmitrienko (1925-1974) was a French artist who studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He expreses in a variety of themes and a joy in the romantic. In his final period (from 1962), coming from an absolute lyricism the artist changes to an extreme austerity and begins carving and sculpting in 1965. Dmitrienko was awarded numerous prestigious prizes, notably: the Prix Pacquement, 1954; the Premier Prix de la Biennale de Paris, 1959; the Guggenheim Prize NY, 1961; Carnegie Prize NY, 1963-1967; First Prize for Young Painters at the Tokyo Biennale, 1964. His works have been represented at the following museums: Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, Centre G. Pompidou Paris; Musée d'Art Moderne de de la Ville, Paris; Centre National d'Art Contemporain, Paris; Foundation Maeght; Musée des Beaux Arts, Dijon; Musée Cantini, Marseille; Muséede des Beaux Arts, Nantes; Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne; Musée Royale des Beaux Arts, Brussels; Museum of Art, Tel Aviv; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Gallery, London.
